Another win for marginalized families in Ontario. By reversing a lower court order for costs against Legal Aid Ontario, the Ontario Court of Appeal agrees with the submissions of intervener OACPL, confirming the importance of solicitor-client privilege for litigants who receive funding from LAO. The case stands as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that funds go to front-line services (as they were intended) and of avoiding increased administrative burdens that would deter lawyers from accepting legally aided clients.
